Should I buy a stackable washer and dryer?
If you don’t have much free space or if you’re trying to make room for storage but still want the convenience of a tumble dryer, you might want to consider opting for a stackable washer and dryer. How do you know if your washer and dryer are stackable? Most standard size front-loading appliances (60cm depth) can be stacked using a stacking kit, however, be sure to check the product details to see if an appliance is stackable before you buy.
How to stack a washer and dryer?
The most important thing to know is that the dryer must always go on top of the washer, not the other way around. Before you begin stacking, measure your appliances and confirm that your installation area is big enough. Be sure to leave an extra 5cm – 8cm on either side for ventilation and cables.
Assembly tips and tricks
Level the washing machine
It is always important to level your machine but even more so when you are stacking appliances. Excessive rattling can be noisy and damage both machines. To level your washer, start by using a spirit level to see which way it is leaning. Place it on top, side to side and front to back. Next, adjust the washer legs until all four are touching the floor.
Remember the anti-slip strips
Now that your washing machine is perfectly level, you can place the spacer on top. Before you do, turn the spacer upside down and attach an anti-slip strip to each corner. This will help protect your washer.
Use a fastening strap (optional)
For added peace of mind, you can also reinforce your appliance stack with a fastening strap. To do this, unroll the strap and insert one end through the right-side slot in your spacer, from the top, with the belt leveller facing outwards.
Run it under the machine and up through the left slot on the spacer. Place your dryer on top, run the belt over it and through the belt tensioner, and tighten the strap.
An alternative option
While stacking your washer and dryer saves a lot of floor space, it does require more height clearance. If you don’t have sufficient space for stacking or you just want to spend a little less, there is an alternative option—a washer-dryer combination appliance.
A washer-dryer combination
With a Siemens washer-dryer combo, you don’t need a lot of space to enjoy perfectly clean and gently dried laundry in one go.
