Which detergent does what?

Detergents and care products contain specific active ingredients that work to produce perfect washing results. Their formula will differ depending on the material for which they are optimised. It is advisable from both an environmental and an economic point of view to keep to the dosage indicated by the manufacturer for the washing process you are going to use. If your washing machine features i-Dos, it will automatically use the correct detergent dosage.

Only for special washing programs such as Wool and Outdoor/Waterproofing do you still need to pour the appropriate amount of detergent into the dispensing compartment yourself.

You can find an overview of the different detergents and their particular properties here:

  • All-purpose and universal detergents

are amongst the most effective detergents and are therefore well suited for heavily soiled and white laundry. All-purpose detergents can be used at any washing temperature. They come in powder, tablet and liquid form. The main difference lies in the fact that the solid versions (powder, tablets) contain a bleaching agent that brightens white laundry and fades coloured stains. This ingredient is absent from all-purpose liquid detergents.

  • Colour detergents

do not contain bleaching agents or optical brighteners, which makes them well suited for coloured laundry such as jeans, T-shirts and coloured hand towels. These detergents often contain additives that prevent the colours from bleeding.

  • Mild detergents

also do not contain bleaching agents or optical brighteners. These detergents have a relatively low pH and are therefore recommended for gently washing particularly delicate fabrics. Some mild detergents contain the enzyme protease, which breaks down or dissolves the dirt from the clothing. Mild detergents containing this enzyme are unsuitable for natural fibres such as wool and silk, however, as the enzyme could damage them.

  • Special detergents

are tailored to specific fabrics and washing processes. You can use these to gently wash delicate fibres and materials such as wool, silk, net curtains, sports fabrics and membrane fabrics.

  • Laundry additives

include a variety of products for protecting fabrics, retaining the shape and colour of clothing, eliminating bacteria or softening or freshening your laundry. These include, for example, bleaching agents, stain solvents and stain removers, laundry starch, disinfectants and fabric softeners. You must always follow the manufacturer's instructions on the packaging to ensure that your clothing is washed properly and safely.

Which detergent for which clothes?

Recommended detergents for the washing of your cloths:

  • Use power detergent for white clothes, it’s recommend using power detergents, as they contain a bleach andoptical brighteners which helps keep your clothes bright white. Power detergent can be dosed directly into the washing machine drawer.

  • For coloured clothes

Use detergent specifically for coloureds/delicates without optical brightener. This will ensure that the colours stay fresher for longer.

  • For black and dark clothes it’s recommended using special liquid detergents.

This detergent type doesn't contain bleach which helps to preserve the colour and brightness of the clothing, ensuring that your blacks remain black and your dark colours remain dark. You can either dose the liquid detergent into the washing machine drawer or place it into the drum via a dosing ball on top of your load.

  • Use pods and tablets.

Pods are great for ease and convenience as they can simply be placed at the back of the drum and then the clothes can be added on top. You can also purchase washing machine tablets that can be placed directly into the drawer.
